Night Diapers

It can be tricky figuring out the right night diapers that keep baby (and you!) dry through the night. Many cloth diaper users find that they have a different nighttime system than what they use during the day.

Here are some nighttime diapering suggestions for you to try:

  • If your little one has sensitive skin, you may want to put him in a pocket diaper for overnight. Most pockets are designed to wick moisture away from baby, keeping your little one feeling dry through the night. For night use, stuff with an extra insert, or consider using hemp inserts, which can hold a lot more moisture than cotton.

  • Some people find that leaks happen overnight no matter what. Some babies just pee a lot while they sleep. If you are like me, you don't want to get up for a diaper change in the middle of the night if you don't have to. What has really worked for us is using a wool cover over a very absorbent fitted diaper or on top of a pocket diaper.

  • Use two diapers! Yep, that's right, one on top of the other. You could use 2 prefolds, 2 fitteds, a prefold and a fitted, whatever you have on hand. Then put a good cover over all of it and voila! A diaper that won't need to be changed until morning.

  • There are also some diapers that are made especially for night. They tend to be a bit more bulky since they are usually made with a lot more absorbent material. This makes them great nighttime diapers, but too big and cumbersome for daytime use.

  • Use hemp inserts or doublers. Hemp is highly absorbent so it can usually handle even the biggest of wetters.
Keep experimenting until you find the right night diapers that work best for both you and your baby!
