How to Make a Cloth Trainer in 10 Steps

by Natalie
(Colorado Springs, Co USA)

Cotton Velour and Hemp Fleece Trainer

Cotton Velour and Hemp Fleece Trainer

I made this cloth trainer for about $2. It took me 15 minutes to make from first cut to finish. This is a really great way to avoid buying those expensive disposable training pants!

Supplies:

  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Soaker Material (Hemp Fleece Shown) 12" by 8"
  • Outer and Inner Material (Cotton Velour used)12" by 42"
  • Fold over Elastic
  • Thread
  • Of Course Sewing machine
  • Old Newspaper

Step One: Draft the design or download one off various sites.

Step Two: Cut out two pieces of inner and outer material from pattern from Step One.

Step Three: Cut a piece of soaker material 12" by 8".

Step Four: Tri fold the soaker material to 4" by 8", zig zag around edges of the soaker material.

Step Five: Pin soaker material to wrong side of the inner trainer material. For a girl place material lower, for a boy place material more up front.

Step Six: Sew soaker material to the trainer material.

Step Seven: Pin the two right sides of inner and outer material together.

Step Eight: Stitch around the sides of the trainer but not the top or bottom. Turn material right side out.

Step Nine: Now that it is all one piece fold in half horizontally and sew the sides together to make a waist.

Step Ten: Stitch fold over elastic around waist to ensure a better fit and cover open sides of material.

Optional step: You can add fold over elastic around leg openings. However, my daughter has eczema and this irritates it further so we opt for a tighter fit in the legs and no elastic.

That's it!

by: Lisa

This is great Natalie! So easy (which I love).. Been struggling with my 4 year old wetting at night, might try making him a few of these with some PUL..

Good luck in the contest and thanks for playing!
