Fuzzi Bunz & Bum Genius Cloth Diapers Make Cloth Diapering Really Easy

Fuzzi Bunz and Bum Genius Cloth Diapers help this new mama keep things really simple with her cloth diapering routine.Samantha lives in Oregon with her young little man, Lucas, who is such a cutie pie! She has a really great blog, full of useful information for all us moms, Mama Notes. Here she shares with us all about how she came to be such a big fan of cloth diapers.
How many children do you have and what are their ages? One son, Lucas- 4 months How long have you been cloth diapering? We started using cloth when Lucas was 3 weeks old. We used disposables for the first few weeks. What had you decide to use cloth diapers? The main thing was the cost. Being young parents we wanted anything to help us keep the cost down! I also wanted to do what I could for the land waste and use safe products on my baby's skin! And now I realize how great and ADORABLE they are!! I'll never look back and I'm so glad we made the decision to use cloth! How did you get started? We got cloth diapers and gift certificates for diapers for my baby shower. We only started out with about 10 diapers when Lucas was 3 weeks. We slowly built our stash to what it is now. What are your favorite types of diapers? My favorite diapers are Fuzzi Bunz. I love the snaps and the way the fit. I much prefer snaps to velcro- but hubby likes velcro better. :) Tell us what's in your diaper stash?
We have about 21 diapers total. 9 Bum Genius Cloth Diapers, 10 Fuzzi Bunz, a Thirsties, and a Rocky Mountain. I need to get more.. What are your favorite diaper brands and why? Fuzzi Bunz!! I just love them. I love the snaps, I love the way they fit, I love the way they look, I love that they are trim and not super bulky. I've only tried four different diapers, but so far, Fuzzi Bunz are my favorite. My husband likes the Bum Genius Cloth Diapers best.
What does your washing routine look like?I use either disposable wipes or cloth wipes. I have a trash can in the hall bathroom that all the diapers go in. We used to have it in his room but it was starting to smell a little- so we just moved it into the bathroom. (The lid isn't tight enough to keep all the smell in). Once the garbage can is full I run a wash- I usually have to wash every 2-3 days or so. I run two loads in the washing machine, one cold and one hot. I use a tiny amount of detergent for each. After the two washes I put the inserts in the dryer for about 5 minutes and I either hang the Fuzzi Bunz and the Bum Genius cloth diapers on the line outside to dry or (if it's not hot outside or if it's night time) I just lay them on my kitchen table to dry. I've noticed that the dryer REALLY is starting to wear on my diapers, especially the velcro, so I try to keep them out of the dryer so they last longer. Then I put the dipes "together" when I'm watching TV or something- takes less than 10 minutes! Easy as pie! Do you have a diaper store your prefer to buy from? I prefer to buy from small local business. I like to support them. We have a local cloth diaper store in my town that I usually buy from. I haven't bought diapers in a while, but next time I do I will probably support another small business/WAHM. What problems or issues have you had while using cloth and how did you fix the problem? Leaking is sometimes a problem. That is the most frustrating part. It's hard to figure out exactly why it's leaking. Usually it's too much detergent or not enough detergent. Usually too much- it only takes a little bit. That and the velcro wearing down- but without the dryer it's much better. Really though, we haven't had a lot of problems! Tell us a funny, cute or memorable cloth diapering story. Oh, just all the comments I get about using cloth on our baby. I get lots of questions, lots of "you're crazy", lots of " wow, that's so much work!" I always tell people- really, it's not that much work. And just look at how cute he is with that diaper on! I swear, it's now like an accessory! ha! :) If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently? I would buy more diapers!! :) I would also buy more Fuzzi Bunz. My husband would buy more Bum Genius Cloth Diapers though! What's the best advice you have for someone just starting out? Don't worry about ruining them in the wash! You can't ruin them! This was so me when I first started out. I didn't wash my diapers (at first) for the longest time because I was so nervous I would some how ruin them. I've talked to a lot of other new moms and this is also a concern of theirs. Don't worry though, there is really no possible way to ruin the diapers. Promise! Another advice would be to buy more than one or two different brands. I guess that's something I might have done differently. I bought only Fuzzi Bunz and Bum Genius Cloth Diapers in the beginning, and I wish I would have bought more of a variety. Variety is the spice of life EVEN with cloth diapers!! Anything else you want to share about your cloth diaper experiences? It's super fun. I love discovering new diapers, new colors, new patters, new colors that will match his outfit.. ( I need a girl don't I?!) and it's really not as hard as I thought itwould be. Yes it takes a little bit to hang the diapers and yes, sometimes I get sick of it, but it's totally worth the money I'm saving, the lack of contribution to the land fill, and the better product being used on my babe!

Thanks Samantha - for keeping it simple and showing us how EASY cloth diapering can be!
